Here at Louby Lou's, we pride ourselves on delivering a highly engaging, exciting educational programme that can be experienced by all ages and abilities. At the heart of this programme lies a key focus on the expressive arts and in particular, the use of drama techniques.

The exploration of drama has enormous benefits to a child's development and is a great tool for encouraging creativity and imaginative work. It is also a wonderful catalyst for cross curricular exploration and one storytelling visit from Louby Lou's can potentially explore some, if not all of the following areas of learning:

We specialise in offering whole class storytelling experiences in which stories are brought to life for primary school children. Our work has been recognised and celebrated by Arts Council Wales and we have led four successful Lead Creative Schools projects in both 2018 & 2019. 

WHAT WE DO.

OUR STORYTELLING TEAM

All of our storytellers are professionally trained actors who are also experienced educational facilitators. We feel we have the best of the both worlds and can marry our experience in the performing arts to your needs as an educational setting. Our storytellers are vibrant, fun and possess up to date DBS certificates. They are also experienced in working with children who may have additional needs. 

As trained actors, our facilitators deliver stories from memory. Books and scripts are never used which means all ages and abilities can join in the storytelling fun. 

INTERACTIVE STORIES

This is our most popular service. These sessions are engaging, exciting and full of action to keep little imaginations captivated with a 35 strong catalogue of stories and themes to choose from. They are ideal for introducing or exploring topics, celebrating literary week or injecting some fun into your story time. 

Explores: plot, thought, character, place, gesture, interaction, tone, empathy and decision making.

Uses: puppetry, role play, music, movement, props and rhythms.

Skills: oracy, literacy, communication, creativity, imaginative, confidence, collaboration, well-being and sometimes numeracy.

For: preschool, nursery, reception, year one and year two.

CREATIVE WRITING

This workshop is a great way to encourage creativity and imaginative responses before approaching a writing task. Sometimes the hardest part is thinking about what you're going to write. Using props, role play, games and drawing, this workshop gives children a chance to form ideas and develop characters before taking to the page. These sessions can be delivered in the classroom and are themed around your topic choice. 

Explores: plot, characters, settings, imaginative responses, description and story formatting. 

Uses: costume, props, music, movement and role play.

Skills:  oracy, literacy, creativity, imaginative, collaboration, confidence and well-being. 

For: year 1 to year 6

Duration: 60 minutes.  

DRAMA WORKSHOPS

Our fun filled drama workshops can bring to life your class based topics in a creative and engaging way. Our storytellers will lead your class through a collection of physical tasks and activities that embody collaboration, whilst exploring characters, role play and performance. The aim of these workshops is to further develop your pupils knowledge of your chosen topic and inspire future class based work.

Explores: creative approaches to learning, role play, character, problem solving, decision making and movement to music. 

​

Uses: props, drawing, costumes, music and movement.

Skills: creativity, confidence, collaborative, imaginative, literacy, oracy, performance and well-being.

For: year 3 to year 6.

Duration: 60 minutes.

STORY TRAILS

This is a great way for children to explore storytelling in an outdoor environment. Dressed as the appropirate character, our storytellers will set your pupils a mission and lead them through a series of clues and activities, to get them one step closer to completing their set task. We have many themes available, from a pirate seeking treasure to grandma tracking down her runaway gingerbread.

Explores: plot, character, setting, thought, problem solving and decision making.

Uses: treasure hunts, written clues, role play, costume, props, movement and the outdoors. 

Skills: oracy, literacy, communication, creativity, imaginative, collaboration, confidence, well-being and sometimes numeracy. 

For: reception to year 6. 

Duration: 45 - 60 minutes.  

ENGAGEMENT

Each week, we spend our time providing storytelling experiences for families which can easily be transferred across to your setting. Encourage your parents to become involved with their child's education through an exciting parental engagement session that follows our storyteller as a group, showcasing how stories can be made more imaginative and creative in the home. 

Explores: creative approaches to storytelling that can be easily transferable to the home.

Skills: performance, oracy, communication, creativity, imaginative, collaboration, confidence and well-being. 

For: all ages.

Duration: 45 - 60 minutes.  

THEATRE SHOWS

This experience gives you the best of both worlds. Our storytellers will perform a fun filled educational show for your pupils, followed by a workshop based on the exploration of the performance they have just watched. We have a collection of themed shows to choose from. 

Explores: experiencing theatre, being an audience member, reflection, plot, character, setting, gesture, facial expression, body language and performing.

Uses: costume, props, small scale set and music. 

Skills: reflecting, performing, observing, inputting, creativity, collaboration, confidence and well-being. 

For: nursery to year 6.

Duration: 60 - 90 minutes.

CPD TRAINING

Not only do we cater for children, but we also provide twilight sessions for staff on how to bring creativity to the classroom through the medium of storytelling and drama.

As Creative Practitioners for Arts Council Wales, we have the knowledge and expertise to guide you through your creative learning journey and grow your confidence in this area of learning. 

Explores: creative learning approaches to all aspects of the curriculum.

Uses: a series of games and activities that are quick and easy to implement into everyday teaching.

Skills: creativity, imaginative, confidence and collaborative. 

For: primary schools. 

Duration: 60 minutes.  

STUDENT TALKS

We are experienced in delivering talks for students on how to make storytelling creative and fun in their placements or how to bring drama into the classroom. Talks include a mixture of presentations and physical group activities led by our professional storytellers.

Our talks focus on pulling at your students creative strings and giving them the confidence to try these out for themselves. 

Explores: creative approaches to storytelling and how drama can be explored throughout school life.
